Gozzy Boys
When Maōri teenager Tane is forced to leave his home in New Zealand, he’s devastated to be separated from his beloved Nan and the world he knows. Uprooted to Australia with his sister G-Baby and father Reggie, Tane struggles with resentment for his father and isolation from his home.
At the local skatepark in his new town of Gosnells, he meets Chappy. They become fast friends as Chappy shows him around his new school. On the first day Tane has a confrontation with a school bully and knocks him out cold with a massive left hook, earning him an instant but dangerous kind of respect from the Gozzy Boys.
Drawn to the thrill of violence and the acceptance it brings, Tane falls in with Mickey, a charismatic but volatile Gozzy Boy who introduces him to a world of drugs, parties, and street warfare. As his loyalty shifts and his behavior spirals out of control, Tane’s bond with his father and sister begins to fracture. When a stash of ecstasy is discovered, tensions erupt into violence at home—pushing Reggie to kick Tane out, driving Tane to stay in the chaos that is Mickey’s home.
Caught in a toxic cycle of meth use and self-destruction, Tane hits rock bottom. But a sobering encounter with G-Baby forces him to confront the self he has lost and the person he has spiraled into. With the anniversary of his mother’s death looming, Tane makes the choice to rebuild what he has lost with his family and find himself again.
